Nikkei dropped 0.62% while HSI rose 0.50% and STI rose 1.01%. FBM KLCI fell 5.15 points to 1,335.87 on dragged down by heavyweights Sime, Genting and Tenaga. Meanwhile, European stocks gained in early trade after UK reported higher sales in June.
Inflation rate in Hong Kong accelerated more than estimated in June, rising 2.8% from a year ago on higher rental and food cost.
Citigroup has cut the growth forecast for China to 9.5% from 10.5% as the economy slowed down.
